Port Strategy – Return of Mexico’s mega-port plan

Port Strategy – Return of Mexico’s mega-port plan.

The US West Coast is becoming increasingly less competitive as a port destination. Long Beach is years behind in its port expansion, while ports on the Gulf Coast are on track to handle the post-Panamax vessels that will be passing through the expanded canal in 2014. Add to that the resistance to port automation by the ILWU, which controls all dock labor from Seattle to San Diego, and West Coast ports are even less attractive.
